Germán's PhD Defense

This Fall quarter, the DECOMP Lab’s very own Germán Silva was awarded their doctorate in Geography for their extensive research that studies wetland soil salinity and the relationships to wetland plant traits, especially anthocyanin content, and how we measure those relationships. They gave their PhD defense to a packed room, making it clear just how dearly they’ll be missed by the department. Afterwards, a celebration was held in the Ellison courtyard, which featured attendees writing notes and drawing images on a T-shirt gift for Germán, a pinata, and some delicious tiramisu.

In the new year, Germán will be starting a teaching position as an instructor for an intro-level Geography course at California State University, Stanislaus, which also happens to be where they earned their undergraduate degree! The lab wishes all the best for Germán’s future endeavors and knows that they’ll achieve great things!
